Summer Sessions | Ages 8-13
Set them up for success on day one of next school year - and for life!
Growing Scholars aims to improve a child's potential for success at school and home by teaching essential skills that promote the development of a positive attitude, healthy habits, and independent routines. Essential skills include social and emotional awareness, developing a growth mindset, goal setting, habit awareness, reflection, and revision. We also aim to motivate high-achieving and gifted students to go beyond what they thought possible.
Do you struggle to find worthwhile summer learning experiences
for your child?
Sports camps fall short
Workbooks are “boring”
Summer school feels like a punishment
While being part of a team and dealing with successes and frustrations gives them an outlet to work on a positive attitude, mindset and perseverance - summer sports don’t tap into executive skills like working memory and initiating tasks.
They complement what their teacher does DURING the school year but fall short with zero interaction and a one size fits all approach.
Your kid doesn’t get any kind of a brain break and they’re overworked and understimulated.
Some parents refer to this as the “summer slide.”
The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way.

Your Summer Session Educator
As a teacher and mother of two, I know how disruptive the start-stop nature of summer can be on your child’s learning. I understand how frustrating it can be when your child resists learning during breaks, even though it would bolster their confidence during the school year to come.
That’s why I created my Growing Scholars Summer Sessions – to engage elementary and junior high level students with creative stimulation to strengthen their executive skills, maintain a good attitude and become more independent.
“My child had a fantastic year in 4th grade with you. She learned so much and really thrived in your class. She absolutely adored having you as her teacher and is so sad that school year is coming to an end. I’m always grateful when someone inspires my children, so THANK YOU!”
-Angela B.
“Thank you for helping to make this such a fun and memorable year for my kid. You’ve been so helpful, and we appreciate the patience you’ve had as we worked through some of Ryan's challenges. He’ll miss you a great deal!”
-Simon F.

Is this right for my child?Does it feel like your child resist attempts to learn during the summer? I know that all kiddos need a creative approach to learning to keep them engaged and using their executive skills, especially over the summer. Our sessions : Practice goal-directed persistence so you don’t have to constantly start yet another new activity or worry about how often you’re shielding them from life lessons they desperately need to learn. Help students become better communicator so they can advocate for themselves at school, with friends and difficult people they’ll inevitably encounter.

What’s included? What’s the typical class size?1 hour sessions, available by recording if you cannot attend live class, and a 20 minute follow-up call with Dr. Kathleen to discuss your student’s unique needs and situation. To facilitate interaction AND learning, class size is limited to 6-8 students. A minimum of 3 students per session is required for the class to convene.

What does success look like?Success looks like an email from a parent who can’t get over how their child is better able to manage their morning routine in a way that persistent nagging would never do. Or it looks like a student, nearing graduation, who sends me a card with fond memories of how they felt seen and heard in my classroom and now feel confident about what lies ahead. Learning comes in bursts and it may not be as clear cut as Amanda raised her test scores from 60 percent to 85 percent because most intelligence and maturity is not reflected this way.
